Frequently asked questions
Is the Clinical Pathways Program really free?
Yes - it's really free and there is no hidden catch for supervisees or employers. The MindSpot Academy Clinical Pathways Program is fully funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing to support the growth of the psychology workforce. This means that all parts of the program are free for accepted supervisees, and there are no on-costs for employers.
Do I need to have a job or work role before applying?
No, you do not need to be employed to apply for the program. The Clinical Pathways Program is different from other internship programs because it can provide you with guidance and support to help find a suitable role that aligns with the requirements of the 5+1 internship pathway. This also means that Masters of Professional Psychology students can apply up to six months before graduation.
Do I need to have an approved internship plan before applying?
No. Part of the support provided by the Clinical Pathways Program is assistance navigating the AHPRA processes and submitting required paperwork.
What supervision is included in the program?
The program provides all the AHPRA-compliant supervision required for the 5+1 internship. This includes all the principal and secondary supervision hours you need, delivered as a combination of individual and group supervision by experienced board-approved supervisors. This has been paired with bespoke professional development seminars and workshops to support learning, professional growth, and competency development.
Can I apply if I live in a rural or remote area?
Absolutely! The Clinical Pathways Program is delivered digitally, which makes it ideal and accessible for those living in further away places in Australia. As long as there is reliable internet access, this flexible approach enables provisional psychologists to complete their internship without needing to leave their regional or remote community. In fact, priority places are available for supervisees who live in rural or remote areas!
How does the program benefit employers?
The program enables employers to recruit and support provisional psychologists without the need for internal supervision capacity. The MindSpot Academy provides the required supervision and professional development, at no cost to the employer, allowing organisations to expand their workforce cost-effectively, reduce supervision-related administrative burden, and increase access to psychological services - particularly in underserved communities.
Is supervision delivered remotely?
Yes. All supervision and professional development activities are delivered remotely. Using secure video conferencing technology, interns can access individual supervision, group supervision, and competency-based professional development from anywhere in Australia via laptop or smart device. This flexible model allows interns to complete their 5+1 internship while working in a location that suits their personal and professional goals, including rural, regional, and remote communities.
Who provides the supervision?
All supervision in the Clinical Pathways Program is provided by MindSpot Academy Board-approved supervisors. These supervisors are fully registered psychologists, and have deep and diverse experience in both supervision of provisional psychologists and clinical practice across the lifespan. The Clinical Pathways Program supervision team are in turn supported by a broader network of experts from MindSpot, Macquarie University Health, and Macquarie University, ensuring a high-quality learning experience grounded in evidence-based practice, professional excellence, and contemporary mental health care.
